Seattle Childrens Hospital/U of Washington holding an SCD Survey

January 25th, 2015

A new survey looking for more information about SCD for research purposes has been posted. Please participate.

"At Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington, we have been examining the effects of the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD) on patients with inflammatory bowel disease. (IBD) We are currently studying the SCD for the treatment of IBD. This survey is to help us better understand the effects of the SCD and how people utilize this diet as a part of their treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. This survey is anonymous. To make sure that the information is as accurate as possible, each survey should represent a single individual. If you are taking this survey, you should be either
1) A patient with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or,
2) The parent/guardian of a child with IBD.

If there are multiple people in your family on the SCD, we ask that one survey be completed for each individual with IBD. For example: if mother and son both have IBD and are on the SCD, one survey would be filled out for the mother and another survey for the son. There are also areas in the survey for free text. In these areas, you can write in answers as you would like. Please provide as much detail as you can. I sincerely thank you for your time and effort."

It sounds crazy but if you are a chronic sufferer of colitis, you will understand why I was so thrilled. I continued to follow the specific carbohydrate diet that Elaine has described in "Breaking the vicious cycle." Gradually all of my symptoms resolved over one year. For the last two years, I am completely symptom-free, back to my normal weight and pursue all of my activities including a busy medical practice.
