The Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ has helped millions of people who suffer from various forms of bowel disease and other ailments to vastly improve their quality of life. It is a diet intended for those suffering from Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, diverticulitis, cystic fibrosis and chronic diarrhea. It has also been effective in the treatment of autism.

About the Book

Breaking The Vicious Cycle, Intestinal Health Through Diet by Elaine Gottschall  is about:

  1. The relationships between food and intestinal disorders such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, celiac disease, cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, and other forms of chronic diarrhea.
  2. A discussion of the cycle of events occurring in the intestine of those with problems and how the Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ can break this cycle and permit the body to regain normal functioning.
  3. The Autism chapter reviews some of the research dealing with the Gut-Brain Axis in child developmental disorders. It points out how dietary intervention with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet addresses and often overcomes conditions thought to be at the root of autism spectrum disorders as well as some cases of epilepsy and attention deficit Disorder (ADD).
  4. A complete recipe section which offers an assortment of simple, quick, as well as gourmet-type recipes, based on the scientific principle underlying the Specific Carbohydrate Diet™.
  5. Many people, on discovering the SCD,™ are eager to begin straight away, even before they receive the book, so we have provided information in the Beginner's Guide on this website to help. While this information will help you get started, to fully implement and understand the diet it is essential to read the book carefully. You can read the foreword to the book on this site and check out reviews in the testimonial section.

We Support the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association was created as a US IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2018 to raise awareness of the benefits of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ (SCD™) while unifying the community including followers, parents, caregivers, doctors, clinicians, companies and others around the world. We provide resources, support, guidance and inspiration via social media platforms and conferences for the public and community to learn, network and support each other. The association also promotes research into the diet.
